April Fool Sketch Comedy Contest

Got a comedy sketch that deserves to be seen? Make us laugh, surprise us, or leave us wondering “how did they come up with that?” We’re looking for original, short-form comedy scripts to bring to life as part of Denver Community Media’s Hands-on Learning Experience. If your script is selected, it will be produced by DCM staff and members under the guidance of a DCM staff director. Selected scripts will be filmed as comedy shorts, with DCM handling production logistics. While submitting a winning script does not guarantee an on-screen role, we promise to treat your work with care and creative respect. Minor adjustments may be made for filming purposes. Key Dates: - Feb 1–21 – Script submissions open - Feb 25 – Winners selected - Feb 25–28 – Auditions in the DCM Main Studio - Mar 2–14 – Production (cast & crew opportunities) - Mar 16–27 – Post-production - Apr 1 – Premiere on Cablecast & VOD - Apr 3 – Screening at First Friday Films Submission guidelines: - Estimated run time of 2-7 minutes or a length of 3-7 pages - Setting must be able to be produced in the Main Studio at Denver Community Media - Keep it PG or PG-13 rated Important details: - By submitting this form, you confirm that you are the original copyright holder of the screenplay and that the work is entirely your own. - AI was not used to generate the screenplay or its ideas. Because AI-generated content cannot be copyrighted, submissions must be fully human-created for ownership to be claimed. - The screenplay does not contain any restricted content as outlined in Denver Community Media’s Programming Process and Policies: https://www.denvercommunitymedia.org/About/Community-Media-Center-Process-Policies - If your script is selected, you grant Denver Community Media permission to produce it. - Denver Community Media retains all rights to the final produced sketch. - There are no license fees or costs associated with the production of the video. - Writers whose submissions are selected will be notified by February 25, 2026. The submission form will be going live on February 1st. This contest is part of Denver Community Media’s Hands-on Learning Experience and offers opportunities for writers, cast, and crew to participate in the creation of short comedy sketches.
